Psalm 34:11-14
Come, my children, and listen to me. And I will teach you to fear the Lord. Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous? Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies! Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace and work to maintain it.

John 4:21-23
Jesus replied, “Believe me dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem. You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews. But the time is coming, indeed it is here now, when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth”.

In this Pslam, David is calling out some truth as to how we are to behave ourselves. The Bible repeatedly talks about fearing the Lord, but this can only be understood when we truly worship Him as the Almighty King over our lives. David danced without hesitation for the Lord, even though it looked foolish. It was his way of giving praise and Glory to the Lord, his way of worship to the Lord.

The Samaritan woman misunderstood true worship by thinking that it could only be done in certain places. This is the case with many people today. The misunderstanding comes because of the lack of obedience to God, which comes out of a not so true relationship with God. When we can understand how the two work together, only then will one be able to truly worship Him in spirit and in truth.

If worship is the foundation of my relationship with the Lord, then that’s all I want to do. In difficult situations, I have failed to bow before the Lord and truly worship Him in it. What I have learned is that really in EVERY circumstance, I must do that. I want to live a long and prosperous life, and my relationship with Jesus is crucial for that to happen. When I think about what he sacrificed on the cross for me, it brings me to tears. What I can offer to Him, is in no comparison to all that has been offered for me.

The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, his ears are open to their cries for help (vs 15)

Really what God wants is for us to have a true relationship with Him, and to approach Him with the anticipation of the goodness He has to offer us.

Father, thank you for the reminder of how you desire us to worship you. Your goodness comes from a place of unconditional love, and I am forever grateful for that love. I pray that from this, I would be more mindful about how I worship you. That I would be very intentional and honor the greatness that you are. Thank you for loving me through your Spirit and truth. In Jesus’s Name, Amen
