January 1, 2018 – Who Are You? – Pr. Jerri Dizol

Scripture:
Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground. So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them;male and female he created them. – Genesis 1:26-27

Observation:
Because God is supreme, we could never be totally like him, but instead, we were created to be reflections of his glory. We have the ability to reflect his characteristics…love, forgiveness, patience, kindness and faithfulness. Knowing all of this should give us a clear understanding of not only who we are, but more importantly, how worthy and valuable we are to Him.

Application:
What a great reminder of how powerful and wonderful God is. There is absolutely no one else like him. No one else who could have created ALL of creation, and all of us. There is much controversy where this subject is concerned, but when you know the real truth of it all, and you believe in your heart that God is the Almighty, then there is no doubt as to our existence and the beauty that surrounds us.

For me, these are perfect scriptures to start a new year off…with our creator at the front. We get to be here because He both created us, and then gave His only Son so that we may live. As believers, and followers of Christ, it is important to remember that we must exemplify Him in our daily living and, take our responsibility as Christians to heart. When we surrendered our life to Him, we stood in agreement with Him and everything that He stood for. So, if we ever have doubt about who we are, and how important we are, then we must refer back to His word, which speaks truth.

Prayer:
Father, thank you for everything you have created. I am always in awe as to your great love for us. I pray Father, that as I enter into a new year, you will show me new things. Thank you for loving me and for your grace that I don’t deserve. In Jesus Name, Amen
