December 19, 2017 – Trusting In His Timing – Pr. Noleen Mendes

Scripture:
Soon a gale swept down upon them, and the sea grew very rough. They had rowed three or four miles when suddenly they saw Jesus walking on the water toward the boat. They were terrified,  but he called out to them, “Don’t be afraid. I am here!” Then they were eager to let him in the boat, and immediately they arrived at their destination! – John 6:18-21

Observation:
This is Jesus, our Messiah, our Savior. He reveals Himself and He comforts: Don’t be afraid. I am here. Then, He draws near by getting into the boat. But here’s an important part of this story: He didn’t come right away. The disciples rowed for some miles before He revealed himself to them. He was there, all along, but made His presence known in His time.

Application:
The storms of life can either keep us in the chaos or move us towards Christ. And because it’s difficult to see Christ in the chaos, due to being bombarded with distracting thoughts, we forget that:

  1. He has been and always will be faithful!
  2. He will never leave us nor forsake us!
  3. His timing is perfect!

As I am trying to get a handle on a situation for my son, along with another ordeal which suddenly popped up, I was starting to feel sorely overwhelmed. I sensed that God was calling me to come near to Him but I was having such a difficult time. Finally, I reached out and asked for prayer. Soon after, I felt my spirit settling down and my thoughts becoming a lot more organized and clear. Through the power of prayer, the Holy Spirit brought peace and comfort to my soul:. “Don’t be afraid. I am here.”

I’m still unsure as to what’s gonna become of these situations I’m dealing with but the one thing I am sure of is that Jesus is in this with me, walking this journey and strengthening my faith. His timing is always perfect and I am confident that He WILL, as Isaiah says, keep me in perfect peace, as I continue to fix my thoughts on Him and trust Him in His timing. (Isaiah 26:3) A wise Pastor once said to me: God may be slow but He’s never late. I totally believe this! To trust God in His timing is to surrender it all and let him take the helm.

Prayer:
Father God, this test has been tough. But I continue to trust in Your timing because you’re the only One who knows what I need, when I need it. Holy Spirit, thank you for bringing me peace and comfort in this chaos. There is no testimony without the test and so I thank you in advance, Jesus, for the testimony that awaits. In Your Mighty Name I pray…Amen!
