January 16, 2018 – The Reward of Right Living – Pr. Noleen Mendes

Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has revealed the meaning of the dreams to you, clearly no one else is as intelligent or wise as you are. You will be in charge of my court, and all my people will take orders from you. Only I, sitting on my throne, will have a rank higher than yours.”

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the entire land of Egypt.” Then Pharaoh removed his signet ring from his hand and placed it on Joseph’s finger. He dressed him in fine linen clothing and hung a gold chain around his neck.—Genesis 40:39-42

When we are righteous before God, He will reward us. And He does so because He’s a good Father who wants to give us good things. Did Joseph ever think, while he was in prison, that he would one day be exalted to such a high ranking…second in command right under the king? I think not. I don’t even think that thought crossed his mind. Every day, he was doing what needed to be done, taking care of his responsibilities, using his gift of interpreting dreams, and trusting God for deliverance. His life was one of righteousness and one that God would eventually reward.

Hebrews 11:6 says “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Joseph was a man who fervently sought the Lord at all times. I believe this because if he didn’t, there was no way he could endure prison life in the way that he did.

Back in April of 2011, I was living in Waimea and working at Home Depot in Kona. By that time, I had been driving back forth for 16 months and was really not wanting to do it any longer. The hours driving home were getting later and later and I was praying that somehow, someway I would not have to work there any longer. Around that same time, New Hope Waimea had started host their monthly Movie-In-The-Park event for the community and Pr. Sonny had wanted to hire a Special Events Coordinator. I was totally dumbfounded when he had graciously offered me the position! Here I was trying to mentally come up with a list of potential candidates for the position, only to have him ask me if I wanted it! Of course, I happily accepted and was so very grateful that God made a way and rewarded me in such a huge, unexpected way!

I believe this is exactly as it was for Joseph and it could be for all those who live as Abraham did. Genesis 15:6 says “Abraham believed the Lord and it was credited to Him as righteousness.” And because of this, God rewarded Him with descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and a land flowing with milk and honey. There’s nothing too difficult for God and He wants to bless us as we put our faith and trust in Him.

Father God, You are a good, good Father, a rewarder of those who love and trust You with their lives. You have rewarded me many times over, blessing me and my household to overflowing. Forgive me God, for those times I had not trusted You, complaining my way through a situation. You are gracious and merciful and, through the power of Your Holy Spirit, you continue to teach me to trust You. Thank you for being a good and relentless Father. In Jesus Mighty Name…Amen!
