December 5, 2017 – Keeping The Fishbowl Water Clear – Pr. Noleen Mendes

So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.  Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.  Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. – Ephesians 5:15-17

So watch your step. Use your head. Make the most of every chance you get. These are desperate times! Don’t live carelessly, unthinkingly. Make sure you understand what the Master wants. – MSG

In the first 14 verses of chapter 5, Paul encourages the Ephesians to live in the light of Christ. In these verses, Paul gives them a checklist on how to begin living in that light so they can live their best life for Jesus.

As a Christ follower, I live life in a fishbowl. Therefore, it’s important, more often than not, that I take an overview of whether or not I’m fully living my life for Christ. Not perfectly but fully. Is there any part of my life that is kept hidden or is everything about my life out in the open? Are my choices foolish or wise? Am I being a busybody instead of being busy with Kingdom work? Am I rash or rational? Am I making every attempt to know Christ so I can make Him known? To fully live my life for Jesus means that every part of it has to be aligned with His character, that when people see me, they see Him. When my life is unequally yoked with His, I need to repent and re-align. I can never be at a place where I think that I’ve got it all figured out and don’t need to check myself. I am prone to failure every day of my life so I need to keep the water in my fishbowl clear.

Father God, it’s my sole desire to live my best life for you. Let me be mindful of this desire while I’m living life. Holy Spirit, remind me of this checklist so I can continue to live a life fully devoted to Christ and His Kingdom purposes, bringing glory to Jesus my Savior. In His Precious Name I pray…Amen!
