October 11, 2017 – Is It A Wonder – Pr. Sonny
“The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid on it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment. (Luke 23:55-56 NIV)
Women in this culture were not allowed a voice in the decision making. It was completely dominated by the men. At this point everyone scattered in fear, except these few brave women. They followed Joseph of Arimathea to the tomb, so that they would know exactly where His body was placed.
Is it a wonder that they were the first to know about the resurrection and that Mary Magdalene would be the first to see our resurrected Lord? In the eyes of many, what these women did was not noticeable at the time. But, it is evident to me that it was certainly noticed by God. Would these women have stood up in the courts of Herod and Pilate in defense of the Lord? I think so!
Is it a wonder that most of the heroes in my life are women? The application for me in these verses is that although they couldn’t speak for Jesus during his trial, they could honor Him by anointing His body with very expensive perfumes and spices. There have been times in my life when I felt like my hands were tied when I wanted to do some great thing for Jesus. It was in those times when I gave up and went home. These ladies remind me that if I cannot do what I would like to do for Jesus, I can at least do something.
I can take advantage of the opportunities that I’m given. I must always remember that I need to focus on the things that I can do and not be as concerned with the things that I cannot do.
Father God, thank You for being a God of “second chances!” I am so grateful for the leading of the Holy Spirit Who helps me to recognize those times when I did something instead of giving up and going home. I know that all you require from me is faithfulness. Keep me doing…In Jesus Name!
