October 2, 2017 –  In It For The Long Haul – Pr. Jerri Dizol

Two thirds of the people in the land will be cut off and die, says the Lord, but one third will be left in the land. I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure. I will refine them like silver and purify them like gold. They will call in my name, and I will answer them. I will say, these are my people, and they will say, the Lord is our God.—Zechariah 13:8-9

In spite of the times that majority of Israel was against the Lord, there were still that few, the “third”, that continued to trust and follow the Lord. It probably was difficult to be in that group of few, but their obedience was honored and recognized by the Lord.

Going with the majority is a natural emotion we face, especially when we are not strong enough to question that majority. We’re afraid of being singled out. But when we say we believe in God, we cannot waver on that, no matter how it may look to others. Believing that God is sovereign over us should never be questioned.

Difficult times are never easy and It’s hard to think clearly when we have to face them, but God wants us to hang in there. He will refine us like silver and purify us like gold when we choose to remain obedient to Him.

My husband and I raised our children in the Lord. They served in ministry with us, and witnessed God’s love for people over and over again. We taught them to know that no matter what they go through, God’s love for them is never to be questioned, and that He is who they should stick with when everyone else might say otherwise. They are all young adults now, have faced many challenges of their own, and God has shown Himself to them each time. The foundation was laid for themand I believe that they will be the “third” that will stand in their faith.

Father, thank you for your word today. I pray that more will come to know of your goodness. Thank you for your love, grace, and mercy. In Jesus Name, Amen
