December 1, 2017 – Hostile Toward God – Pr. Lori Nagaoka

6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. – Romans 8:6-8

The question here is what is my mindset…do I think and act like Jesus Christ? Or do I think and operate more out of my own desires, drive, thought-process. My mind must be set on things above as in Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, what-ever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Because our flesh nature is completely hostile to God, not only do I need to have a heavenly mind-set & have the mind of Christ but I must DO as Jesus did. He did nothing in and of Himself. Jesus did as He saw His Father do and say.

Our minds need to be daily renewed so that our mindset is more like Christ. Our spirit needs to be renewed through the Word, Worship, and Prayer. This should not be out of work but out of pure love for our Jesus who did ALL for us. Renewal of our minds happens as we separate ourselves from agreeing upon the standards of this world, i.e: “keeping up with the Jones’”. As in Ephesians 4:22-24 “regarding your previous way of life, you put off your old self [completely discard your former nature], which is being corrupted through deceitful desires, and be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude], and put on the new self [the regenerated and renewed nature], created in God’s image, [godlike] in the righteousness and holiness of the truth [living in a way that expresses to God your gratitude for your salvation].”

Thank you, Jesus, for all that You have done for me. I can live in Your peace knowing that I no longer live for selfish gain but choose to live for You. I am forever grateful for my new life in You where peace and joy are real to me each day. Thank you Holy Spirit for always leading me to Truth and Peace and Comfort.
