September 18, 2017 – Have No Doubt – Pr. Jerri Dizol
Zechariah said to the angel, “How can I be sure this will happen? I’m an old man now and my wife is also well along in years.” Then the angel said, “I am Gabriel! I stand in the very presence of God. It was he who sent me to bring you this good news! But now since you didn’t believe what I said, you will be silent and unable to speak until the child is born. For my words will certainly be fulfilled at the proper time.—Luke 1:18-20
From Zechariah’s stand point, you could understand his doubts. But God stands from a point of making impossibilities, possible. He knows the prayers of His children, and He answers them according to His timing, which is perfect. What God promises, He delivers! And His deliveries are on time, so don’t ever doubt that!
There is truth in the words, “there is power in prayer”. But it’s in the waiting that I sometimes lose focus of that truth. Zechariah and Elizabeth were godly people, but they were suffering because they so wanted children. When my prayers become repetitive, I sometimes feel like I’m bringing it up as a reminder to the Lord, as if He needed reminding.
Not very long ago, I was deeply hurt by people whom I cared for and loved very much. And I remember praying to God and asking that He please take away every part this hurt because I just couldn’t bare it. My heart was becoming hardened, my thoughts were consuming me, and my emotions were all over the place. I needed a Gabriel to come and bring me good news from the Lord. And that’s exactly what happened! The answer to my prayer was granted through many different Gabriels that God used, including the ones at Bethel church in Redding, CA! In hindsight, I know that what happened was all a part of God’s plan for me, including taking away any kind of doubt that God truly hears AND answers prayers. My children were also affected by this hurt and like Zechariah, I was kept silent until the perfect timing of the Lord arrived, where I could talk to them about what happened. I was able to share everything with them, with the confidence in knowing that I was healed because God answered my prayer. God is faithful and just. He never lets me down. He answered this prayer of mine in ways that I could never imagine, and for that, I am hugely grateful. Isaiah 55:8-9 says:
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts”, says the Lord. And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher then your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
God is good!
Father, thank you for your faithfulness in answering my prayers. Forgive me for the times when I doubted you. You are truly a good Father who loves His children. Thank you for the angels that you sent to me in my time of need. It is with my deepest gratitude that I give to you for healing me. In Jesus Name, Amen
