November 11, 2017 – Gospel – Good News – Pr. Rick Nagaoka
To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel that I may share in its blessings. – 1 Corinthians 9:22-23 (NIV)
In this chapter Paul speaks of his freedom and what he has chosen to do with it. Paul’s freedom came by way of an encounter with God on a Damascus road where he has liberated from legalism, pride, misguided passion, and a few other things. In place of all those things that made him Saul, he now, as Paul, a changed man, dedicates that time in spreading the gospel…the good news that saves. You see, good news isn’t good at all if the people that need to hear it, don’t. (Romans 10:14 “how can they hear without someone sharing it with them”) He mentions earlier in this chapter (vs. 16) that because of his salvation experience, he is compelled to share it with others, which means he just can’t help himself. He needs to share what God has and is doing in his life so that everyone he encounters can experience the same. He also goes on to give us a glimpse as to how we should do it, we need to meet people where they are at..(vs. 22 I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some).
We need to be prepared and aware of the Spirit’s leading as to whom he has placed in front of us to share the gospel – the good news of Christ. Think about it: we all probably received our salvation through someone sharing the good news with us. They, being led by the Spirit, spoke the words that met us exactly where we were at and in the right moment. So let us be a people that will accept the great commission (Matt. 28:19) not the subtle suggestion to take the gospel to all nations starting with our own families, neighborhood and towns.
Lord, thank you so much for your redeeming love that you chose to die for me on the cross that I might live. When you rose from the grave, so did my life when I accepted you as my Savior. Help me Spirit to share the good news (Isaiah 61) that others may know of your saving grace, that through you deliverance and healing can be found. In your immeasurable Love, amen.
