October 10, 2017 –  God’s Word: The Weapon Against Opposition – Pr. Noleen Mendes

Scripture:
After I made an inspection, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials, and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the great and awe-inspiring Lord, and fight for your countrymen, your sons and daughters, your wives and homes.” – Nehemiah 4:14

Observation:
No matter the opposition, we have to remember that our God is always greater and stronger. An alert leader recognizes when to bring encouragement and that’s what Nehemiah did. Not only did he encourage, but he did so boldly and confidently. The people needed to be reminded of the truth that God is bigger and stronger than any opposition they could ever face.

Application:
Fear is real, especially when we are faced with opposition. Although opposition and fear can be crippling, it’s also a tool which God uses to strengthen our faith. It seems that Nehemah wanted to bring the people back to the basics: “REMEMBER!!”  he said to them. Remember who? Remember Abraham? Remember Moses? Remember David? No!! Remember the great and awesome God!! Remember He has not failed us before and He will not faill us ever!!” The battle belongs to the Lord and He will always fight on our behalf.

For me, opposition usually comes by way of my thoughts. The Word of God encourages me by reminding me of the truth about who God is: That He is my refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. (Ps 46:1); that when I feel like I’m drowning in the deep waters of stress and difficulties, it will not overtake me for He is with me. (Isaiah 43:2); that He is not far from me and in Him, I live and move and have my being. (Acts 17:27-28); that He has not given me a spirit of fear but of love, power and a sound mind

Of course, no one wants to be faced with opposing people or situations but for me, I have found that my faith has deepened because of it. The enemy wants nothing better than to trip me up and cause me to lose faith in my God. However, when I get back to the basics and REMEMBER all that He has done for me in the past, I would be foolish to give into the enemy’s lies instead of standing on God’s truth.

Prayer:
Father God, thank you for Your Word, which encourages me in my faith and reminds me of how great and mighty You are!! Holy Spirit, thank you for bringing the Word back to me when I need it most, and also, for reminding me of those past victories, where the enemy tried to defeat me but lost!!  Thank you Jesus that by the Cross, I can do all things through You who gives me strength beyond comprehension! In Your Mighty Name I pray…Amen!!
