4/11/2018 – God’s Measuring Standard – Pr. Sonny Shimaoka

Scripture:
We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves, and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise. We, however will not boast beyond proper limits, but will confine our boasting to the field God has assigned to us, a field that reaches even to you. (2 Corinthians 11:12-13 NIV)

Observation:
The world loves to make comparisons! To me it’s a clear sign of someone’s insecurity when they measure themselves by themselves or others. Paul was a very secure person who did not get caught up in the mind games of his accusers. I must do the same!

Application:
My standard of measure must always be with Jesus. If I’m doing what He has called me to do is the only way to measure myself. I may not do it perfectly but as long as I’m headed in His direction for my life, I’m secure. God’s measuring standard is a sure fire way to prevent pride from setting in.

Two questions I must always ask myself when tempted to compare my accomplishments with others:

1. How does my life measure up to what God wants?
2. How does my life compare to the Model, Jesus? Do they see His image in me and my actions?

Prayer:
Father thank You for sending Jesus to be the Perfect Standard of Measurement. Holy Spirit I will always look to You for help whenever I need to recalibrate my actions to model the Standard. In Jesus Name…
