November 15, 2017 – God’s Comfort Zone – Pr. Sonny Shimaoka

Scripture:
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.  For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.  (2 Corinthians 1:3-5 NIV)

Observation:
I like these designations of the Father.  He is the Father of compassion and the God of “all” comfort.  That means no one can surpass Him on showing compassion and providing comfort in every area of suffering and pain.  His Name is Compassion and Comfort.  Sounds to me like there is no amount of suffering that we can go through where He cannot provide more than enough comfort to sustain us.  I like the fact that it’s the Lord’s way of preparing us to be able to relate, identify and minister to someone He brings to us with the intent of leading them to Jesus.

Application:
I have come across many people over the years that have the misconception that when God comforts us, it means that our suffering and troubles should disappear.  Sounds to me like if that were the case, you would have people turning to the Lord only so that they could “escape” pain and suffering.  No one likes pain and suffering.  I must remember that every trial that I endure “qualifies” me to help others who are suffering the same pain.  I must also remember that there is no amount of suffering that I can go through where He cannot provide more than enough comfort to persevere!

Prayer:
Holy Spirit help me to always remember that You are the author of compassion and all comfort.  You know exactly how to minister these truths.  Thank you that I get to enter Your “comfort zone” when I encounter the trials of life. In Jesus Name…
