November 8, 2017 – Elihu, Wisdom Half-Way – Pr. Sonny Shimaoka
“I thought, Age should speak; advanced years should teach wisdom. But it is the spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding. It is not only the old who are wise, not only the aged who understand what is right.” (Job 32:7-9 NIV)
I really like this young man, Elihu! He has a high degree of respect for the kupuna. The elders in his community. He also recognized the truth that God is the only One with the complete answers to every question in life. The Lord is the only source of true wisdom. It is in our spirits that understanding from God is processed.
The best answer I can give is that God is in charge and in control of every aspect of my life. One of the words that is not in His vocabulary is “oops!” There have been times over the years where I would have preferred to do things my way. But I’m learning that He knows exactly what He’s doing to get me to where He wants me. That’s as far as I can go and it’s fine with me. The “breath of the Almighty” allows me to be content with this answer. It has helped me to live out this truth each day, trusting that God will make sense of it all in His time. The only criticism I have of Elihu is that although he recognized that God was the only source of real wisdom, he did not ask God for wisdom in order to help Job. That’s where I tend to drop the ball when helping others.
Father thank you for giving me Your breath that gives me understanding. Thanks for giving me strength in my spirit to trust You, especially when I have the tendency to question Your wisdom. In Jesus Name…
