April 3, 2018 – All Relationship, No Religion – Pr. Noleen Mendes

Scripture:
“ 13 Then Micah said, “Now I know that the Lord will be good to me, since I have a Levite as priest!”

Observation:
Obviously, Micah did not have a relationship with God. First of all, he’s an idol worshipper and now, he believes that God will be good to him just because he has a Levite priest. He’s the perfect example of religion. Like many of the Israelites in the time of Judges, Micah turned away from God and did what he thought was right. People cannot build a relationship with God if they choose to turn away from Him and live life according to their own standards.

Application:
Being raised in the church didn’t mean that I had a right relationship with Jesus. I had religion instead. I didn’t even have a relationship with God nor did I understand the role of the Holy Spriit. I knew facts about all 3 but a relationship? Nope! I was very much like Micah, thinking that if I did the right things, God would be good to me. Little did I know that He loved me anyway and there was nothing I could do to make Him not love me. When I came to know Jesus and built a relationship with my Heavenly Father, my life changed forever! I no longer have to work to feel loved. I’m loved simply because He chose to love me with the life of His Son.

Prayer:
Holy Spirit, thank you for leading me from religion to a relationship with my Heavenly Father. My life has been much richer once I recognized my Father God as the One in whom I can run to in times of trouble. Thank you, too, for pouring into me all that I needed to grow in my relationship with Jesus. I worship You, Almighty God, there is surely none like You! In Jesus Name Amen!
