March 28, 2018 – Go – Pr. Sonny Shimaoka

Scripture:
“Barak said to her, If you go with me, I will go, but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.” (Judges 4:8 NIV)

Observation:
This verse reminds me of the conversation Moses had with God in Exodus 33. Moses knew the critical importance of God’s Presence wherever he went in life. Moses said to God, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that You are pleased with me and your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth? (Exodus 33:15-16)

Deborah must have been very “distinguishable” from everybody else. Barak thought so! I don’t think Barak was a coward but I do think that Deborah must have been an exceptional leader and exuded tremendous confidence in the Lord’s Presence in her life. She was a woman that lived for God and encouraged people to obey Him in every area of their lives.

Application:
Am I a recognized leader that people can follow because they see that I follow Jesus? The apostle Paul said the same thing to the Corinthians. “Follow my example but only as I follow Christ.” (1 Corinthians 11:1) Do I convey the same confidence in the Lord that Deborah had and is it contagious? I must be more intentional with the young leaders in helping them to grow in this same confidence.

Prayer:
Father thank You for providing such a great example for me to follow. Like Deborah I want to develop a strong confidence in the Holy Spirit when I take on assignments that you give me. Thank You Holy Spirit for leading me as only You can. In Jesus Name…
