January 17, 2018 – Faith For All Seasons – Pr. Sonny Shimaoka

Scripture:
The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” Jesus replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, be uprooted and planted in the sea, and it will obey you.” (Luke 17:5,6 NIV)

Observation:
The question I have to ask is, “Does faith grow?” If it does, how does it increase? According to Jesus, faith doesn’t grow or increase. According to Jesus, it doesn’t depend on the amount of faith you have. All you need is faith “as small as a mustard seed!” Just a little pea size will do!

Application:
I’ve come to understand that it doesn’t depend on how much faith I have. The Bible says that I have been a given a measure of faith. Faith is faith! According to Jesus I have enough to move mountains. What this means to me is that as I continue to use the measure of faith I have, I build the “capacity” to believe God for all seasons. It’s not my faith that grows. I grow in my faith! I build capacity to trust Him no matter what I’m contending with in my life. The faith that I have been given is good for every season of my life.

Prayer:
Father thank you for a faith that is sufficient no matter what life throws at me. Holy Spirit I continue to look to you to increase my insight and understanding regarding biblical faith. In Jesus Name….
