January 5, 2018 – God gets ALL The Street Cred! – Pr. Lori Nagaoka

Scripture:
The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give the people to me and take the goods for your-self.” Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have sworn to the Lord God Most High, pos-sessor of heaven and earth, that I will not take a thread or a sandal thong or anything that is yours, for fear you would say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’ – Genesis 14:21-23

Observation:
Abram has come off a monumental & miraculous battle win with just 318 men against 9 nations & their armies. One of the defeated kings, King of Sodom, seems to make Abram a fair offer in verse 21: give me back my people & you can have all the goods. Abram refuses that offer! In the two previous verses (19-20), King of Salem, Melchezidek, blesses Abram & declares whom has truly delivered this miraculous vic-tory…God. Abram chooses to acknowledge God as His Warrior, His Provider, and His Lord.

Application:
Abraham (Abram) isn’t always one of my favs, in terms of bible heroes. He lied about his wife twice saying that she was his sister and he slept with his wife’s handmaid, Hagar, which started a faith & race war that will go on till Jesus returns. In spite of these things, the Lord overwhelmingly blesses Abraham. In Gene-sis 14, the picture of Abram’s obedience to the Lord is amazing. Abram’s choice to keep his word to the Lord as well as give God all the Credit that He is due is what paves the way for Abram’s future Promise and Covenant with God that he will be the father of many nations.

Prayer:
Jesus, You are so worthy of all of our love and worship! All we have comes from You and belongs to You! Thank you for loving us even when we fail, lie, cheat. You are Good! I owe all to you Jesus!
