December 11, 2017 – God’s Power – Pr. Jerri Dizol

Scripture:
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self discipline. – 2 Timothy 1:7

Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you. – 2 Timothy 1:14

Observation:
The three characteristics that Paul tells us here are crucial to every church leader who wants to be effective for Christ. Leaders must lean into the Holy Spirit for wisdom on everything, and God gives us all that we need to accomplish that, including encouragement. If His Spirit lives within us, then we can know beyond any doubt, that we have His power, His love, and His self discipline to use whenever we need it to further His Kingdom.

Application:
When we face opposition, there are only two ways it can go…either we stand up with the confidence that God gives us, or we allow the opposition to be in control. Sadly, I was not always confident to stand up. In my early days of being a Christian, I didn’t truly understand the depth of God’s love for me and the truth in His word. It wasn’t until I began to grow in my faith, that I could see all that God had for me. I realized that He had already given me the gift of the Holy Spirit.

God is our creator, and He carefully makes sure that we have all of His resources that we need to do His work. We can be confident that He has given us His Holy Spirit to help guide us, especially in difficult times. And we must understand the value behind His entrusting us to further His Kingdom.

Prayer:
Father, I thank you for Holy Spirit, and for the truth in your word. Help me to remember the power, love, and self discipline that come from you. I am honored that you have chosen me to be your servant in delivering your message to everyone who wants to know. In Jesus Name, Amen!
