November 22, 2017 – The Language of the Kingdom – Pr. Sonny Shimaoka
Jesus replied, “Go back to John and report what you hear and see. The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor. Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of Me!” – Matthew 11:4-6 (NIV)
I imagine that when John heard what Jesus was doing, he probably said to himself, “That’s what I have been waiting to hear!” Why was John still unsure of Who Jesus was? Wasn’t it revealed to him at the Lord’s water baptism? Was he counting on Jesus getting him out of prison? Is verse 6 meant as an encouragement to John? I think so! It sounds like he wanted to be absolutely sure that Jesus was the Messiah before he was martyred.
I don’t know if John knew that he was going to be beheaded. I’m pretty sure that he knew that he was going to die! I believe that John was very familiar with the language of the kingdom. It’s the language that should mark the ministry of every believer. Why? Because it’s the language of the miraculous and it’s what I believe gets people to embrace Jesus as their Savior.
Heavenly Father thank You for the miracle of salvation. I pray that the miraculous is one of the distinguishing marks of my ministry. In Jesus Name…Amen
