October 7, 2017 – The Hand of the Lord – Pr. Sonny Shimaoka

Scripture:
-this Ezra came up from Babylon.  He was a teacher well versed in the Law of Moses, which the Lord, the God of Israel, had given.  The king had granted him everything he asked, for the hand of the Lord his God was on him.”  Ezra 7:6 NIV

Observation:
The “Hand” of God on Ezra is mentioned at least four times in today’s reading.  As a result he was granted favor with everyone especially the king, he took courage, he was able to recruit the right people to help with the task of rebuilding Solomon’s temple, and he received protection from the opposition.  All of this because God’s hand was on Ezra. However, I noticed that with all this favor, Ezra still took responsibility for only what Ezra could do.

Application:
God will only do what only He can do.  He will not do what only I can do!  I have come to realize that God is in to “partnerships.”  Here’s a thought:  I can do all the things that Ezra was responsible to do, but if the hand of the Lord is not on me, I will not be successful.  I have seen and have been a part of well-planned and organized ministry events fail simply because God’s hand wasn’t on it.  Moses understood this principle in Exodus 33.  I have also seen events that wasn’t well-planned or organized succeed.  Why?  The “hand of the Lord” was on it!  Another important criteria is to be well versed in the scriptures.  It was Ezra’s biggest advantage.

Prayer:
Father keep me steadfast in Your Word and glued to Your heart.  Holy Spirit help me to keep my relationship with You fresh and vibrant.  Lord thank you for Your hand that is on me…In Jesus Name!
