October 4, 2017 – Miracles Are For Salvation – Pr. Sonny Shimaoka

Jesus said, “Were not ten healed?  Where are the nine?  Can none be found to come back and give glory to God except this outsider?”  Then he said to him, “Get up.  On your way.  Your faith has healed and saved you.”  Luke 17:17-19 (MSG)

What about the nine?  A couple things comes to mind.  Jesus seems to indicate that they were Jews.  Jews who probably felt entitled because of being God’s chosen people.  Reminds me of the same ingratitude God’s people had in the desert.  Makes me wonder if the nine healed lepers ended up not going to show themselves to the priests. It also tells me that the nine lepers saw Jesus as only a “miracle worker” and nothing else. What a stark contrast with the Samaritan leper.  He is so passionate in his expressions of gratitude and thankfulness for his healing.  He not only was healed of leprosy but also received salvation.  What a deal!  By the way, what is it about outsiders?

The one thing that all ten lepers had in common is that they had faith that Jesus could and would heal them.  Verse 14 says that after Jesus gave them the word, they went and along the way they were healed.  My trust in God must be strong enough to act on what He says even before I see any evidence that it will work.  The Samaritan leper reminds me that consistently being grateful, giving glory, and maintaining a thankful heart towards God allows me to understand His grace and mercy.  I also have a deeper appreciation of the salvation I have in Jesus Christ.  It’s a great pathway to wholeness!

Heavenly Father thank you for miracles.  Thank you that they are still available today and I believe that they can lead someone to salvation.  Holy Spirit help me to stay focused and alert as to when you will call me to pray for a soul who needs a miracle that will lead them to salvation In Christ Jesus!
